default
Posted on Wed, 22 Jun 2016
Question: I was told I have Vagal reaction. Had this before, sitting in a movie theater I felt a little sick and then passed ou as soon as I woke up I vomited 6 times and was very pale and shakey. This doesn't sound like Vagal from what I've read

they did all the tests the first time it happened but I'm healthy, also if it is stress I've been way more stressed in younger years

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Before giving my opinion I would like to know all the test you have done. Syncope or passing out may be related to:
- Cardiac issues
- Vaso vagal reaction
- Metabolic disorders
- Neurological disorders
- Stress and anxiety

If you were my patient I would recommend to do the following examinations to find out what is causing your symptom:
- Blood work including hormonal balance
- Ecg
- Cardiac echo
- Holter monitoring
- Tilt testing (this will help to diagnose vaso vagal reaction)
- Doppler examinations of neck arteries
- Head ct scaner

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!

I had all those tests done except stress. The order in which I had my symptoms does not match those I've read online. I pass out first, sweat next, vomit and shake next. Get very pale. I've had way more stress years ago and did not have this reaction. All tests were good. This was my 2nd one with same reactions

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Since you have done most of the test and they didn't found anything abnormal, then your symptoms may be related to vaso-vagal reaction. Vagal reaction it's an appropriate vessel reaction to vagal stimulation and it's not directly caused by stress and anxiety (stress may only aggravate it).

In order to confirm the diagnosis (as i said above) you should do a tilt table test. During the test several vagal stimulation are done and the doctor will check for abnormal reaction (such as hypotension, syncope, sweating etc.). Please keep in mind that during clinical practice different people have different reaction to vagal stimulation and syncope (faint) may be the first sign.

If during the vagal stimulation on a tilt test table it's observed a syncope or hypotension then the diagnosis of vasovagal syncope it's confirmed.

Wish you health!
