What Causes Swelling After Quitting Smoking?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: Can you please name the condition. I have uploaded the pics. I had stopped smoking 27 days back. This developed 10 days after quitting. There was a swelling for few days but the swelling has gone now but the patches are there. I had been smoking for 2 years. Whats is it? Will it go away normally? Or ist something very serious?

Brief Answer:
pharyngitis, leukoplakia

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query and photographs.
I can see two problems in the photographs.
1. There is redness in your throat which suggests acute pharyngitis.
2. There are white patches in oral cavity suggestive of leukoplakia.
Both these conditions are related to smoking and are reversible.
I usually suggest oint triamcinolone oral paste and have seen good response with that.
You can try it.
Also take vitamin A and E capsules daily.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX for your answer. I have some doubts:

At the back of the throat in image 0000_230548.jpg, there are white yellowish spots. These are tonsil related? Are these due to cold?

Lukeplakia, how much time it take to heal? Is it the side effect of quitting smoking?

Do I need to be worried about serious illness? Or they will heal on their own?
