default
Posted on Tue, 3 Nov 2015
Question: What would cause swelling and cramping in the lower part of the abdomen? Every now and then there is cramping almost like contractions. I had fever on Monday evening but it only lasted about 5 hours. Now no fever but tenderness and if I move too much I aggravate it again.

Brief Answer:
Bladder infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Lower abdominal pain is usually caused by bladder infection. Especially if you have also some frequent urinating or burning while urinating. The pain can sometimes radiate to the back.
If there is any stool problem like constipation, diarrhea, gas obstruction, large bowel issue can be the case as well.

I suggest you to start with some diagnostic. Abdominal ultrasound, blood work, urine analysis should be done at first. Colonoscopy should be done as a second test especially if you have any stool problems.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
