Question : Swelling and stiffness in ankle not caused by any trauma. This situation has happened 3 time over the past month comes on slowly and usually lasts for 24 hours. However, this episode has lasted for 3 days. It has the characterics of a sprain, icing has little affect.

It looks like a firm of arthritis of the ankle, possibly Gout.

Avoid meat and their gravies, fish, asparagus, beer, high protein diet.

Drink plenty of water daily. Get your blood tested for Uric acid levels. Do get an Xray of the ankle. Apply hot packs to the affected region. Take Tablet Ibuprofen to control the inflammation.

When you mentioned staying away from meat are you referring to all types of meat or just red meat? I work on my feet, would wrapping the ankle be advisable?

Red meat most dangerous. Wrapping good to reduce swelling.

You can use a hard soled boot. Wrapping so help with the swelling.

All types of meat can be dangerous but most dangerous is red meat.
