Brief Answer:
A few possibilities, along with remedies listed for you ma'am

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Swelling is although a normal response to injury and a wound, it can also indicate a number of other things like:

+Improper care of a wound
+Possible initiation of infection
+Poor wound care (that could include absence of sterile bandage, absence of regular changing of dressing, etc.)
+Too much pressure or stress on the injured region (i.e. lack of rest)
and a few others.

For this reason following would be my advise:

+Apply a cold compress to the region for the first 2 days, and then a warm compress to the region on the following days to promote healing and prevent swelling
+Drink plenty of water
+Rest the affected leg and region
+Apply a sterile bandage which has to be changed on a daily basis
+Use an antibiotic topical cream before you apply the sterile bandage (e.g. neomycin) available over the counter
+Start mild exercise of the leg while being in a seated position like leg raises after the 3rd day from injury to promote blood circulation
+Keep the leg elevated at a level not above your heart level (also prevents swelling)

Please also note the colour of the wound and if at all your body temperature changes (rises), these could be indicative of an infection and will require antibiotic coverage. I hope you find my response both helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
