Brief Answer: Reasons for edema should be investigated. Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX Thanks for writing to HCM There must be some reasons for edema in both lower limbs. You can take second opinion. You need proper clinical examination and investigations. Investigations include Routine hemogram,Random blood sugar(RBS),Liver function test(LFT),Renal function test(RFT),Lipid profile,Thyroid profile,Urine RE/ME,Ultrasound of abdomen. Further investigations can be done if needed. Goal of lymphedema therapy is to restore function, reduce physical and psychological suffering and prevent the development of infection. If there is underlying etiology (e.g neoplasm, infection etc),it should be properly treated in order to relieve the lymphatic obstruction. You can wear compression garments such as stockings and take limited salt in your diet. Whenever possible you should keep your legs above the level of your heart,it will help in drainage of fluids. Treatment for lymphedema depend upon clinical findings and investigation reports. Get well soon. Hope i have answered your query. Further queries are most welcome. Take Care Dr.Indu XXXXXXX
