Brief Answer:
different possible causes

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Swelling of the legs , ankles or feet can occur due to different possible causes such as: (1) side effect of medication eg the blood pressure medication amlodipine, causes swelling to occur

(2)venous disease- this is a common cause. There are 2 sets of veins in the legs, those right under the skin and those that lie deeper
Blood goes from the ones right under the skin (superficial veins) to the deep veins back to the heart. There are one way valves that are to help keep the blood flowing in one direction'

With age or if a person had a clot , the valves and veins do not work as they should so blood builds up and swelling occurs.

Varicose veins may be seen

(3) liver , kidney or heart disease- disease of any of these swelling to occur

(4) low levels of protein in the body

To find the cause, you would need to be assessed by your doctor. This would include physical examination and possibly blood tests (to check kidneys and liver)
If there are other heart related symptoms , tests such as an ECG , may also be needed

Treatment would depend on the cause found

I hope this helps ,feel free to ask any other questions
