What Causes Swelling In The Genital Area Post Pancreatitis Treatment?

Posted on Tue, 12 Jul 2016
Question: I was just released from a hospital in Mexico. I was taken there for pancreatitis which I have had in the past. I spent four days admitted. The entire four days they continuously gave me iv after iv non stop along with pain medications and medication to help me relieve trapped gas. I was fasting the whole time. I feel beter now but my abdomen is still swollen and they said to walk alot. Upon urinating I noticed my genital area was very swolen. It all looked abnormal. I called the doctor back and he said that is normal and it will go away after awhile through urination. He said that the fluids settle in other parts of your body. I was laying down the whole time I was given the iv. Is what he says true. Will this go away or am I stuck with it? Also I am supposed to fly tomorrow. Should I be worried about that?

Brief Answer:
as discussed below

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
I have read the history carefully and understood your concern.
The swelling in genital area is known to occur. After pancreatitis and loads of iv fluids.
It is necessary to know a few things:
Whether the swelling is secondary to fluid overload or due to problem with kidneys, hernia or any other reason.
The stomach is still swollen. Can be gases or ascites due to pancreatitis
I would advise you the following:
Get clinical evaluation to find the exact cause, investigations to support like that of blood, urine, heart, ultrasound of abdomen and swollen parts to make sure that there is no further complication.
I was wondering why would you like to fly in such a condition.

You may please post the pictures of the swollen areas.
I hope this answer helps you, please give feedback and feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

I am flying because this happened while I was on vacation to Mexico and my vacation ends tomorrow. I have to fly home or extend and wait for this swelling to go down. The doctor did two full blood workup, one before and one after, on me and he said everything was back to normal. I can send you pictures but did you want one of the affected genital area?
