What Causes Swelling In The Throat With Swallowing Difficulty?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Oct 2016
Question: I feel a swelling in the upper right area behind my throat that just appeared out of nowhere about 6 weeks ago. Doesn't interfere with swallowing food, no pain or tenderness, just feel it as a small swelling with my thumb up there. Tried 2 weeks of Prevacid as thought it might be related to acid reflux. Also stopped my Nasacort. No change. Could it be a swollen adenoid?

Brief Answer:
It could be an enlarged adenoid.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description, it could be enlarged adenoid.
It could be due to infection and associated inflammation.
As it is present since 6 weeks, exact diagnosis should be confirmed. Please consult an ENT specialist, get examined clinically and proceed accordingly.
For infections in the throat, I prescribe Antibiotic like Azithromycin 250mg twice daily along with anti inflammatory tablet twice daily for 1 week.
Hope I answered your query.
If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Please attach a picture showing the lesion.
Wish you good health.
Regards
