What Causes Swelling Inside Vagina?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Jan 2015
Question: Hi I'm just a little worried. My gspot seems to be swollen and when I press on it there is slight pain. Also my vagina in general is a little itchy, nothing unbearable.
Some background info - I'm on the evra patch and I had and extra period after putting on my second week patch (I believe I may have taken too long to put the new one on, like a few days)
Hopefully this is enough info for me to get some help

Brief Answer:
It may be a yeast infection or contact dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for using this site.

I understand your concern and I will try to help you.

As I understand from your history you have had prolonged bleeding, this may predispose you to have yeast infection or contact dermatitis (from the prolonged contact of your genital skin to pads)

Yeast infection is predisposed too from the use of hormonal birth contraception.
But in most of cases of yeast infection, except itchy and swollen are present also increased vaginal secretion like curd.

Hence if you haven't increased vaginal secretion but only itching and swollen, it may be a contact dermatitis.
But I can exclude vaginal yeast infection when it is confirmed/rule out by doing vaginal swab).

To relieve your symptoms that may be from yeast infection or contact dermatitis (irritation of genital skin from the use of pads) you can start:
1. by using with Sitz baths 3 to 4 times per day
2. Apply over the counter external creams and antihistamines once a day for itching

All the best

Ok thank you
There is no curd like secretion.
So this problem will just go away as long as there is no longer anything irritating it?
