Brief Answer:
same antibiotics, access cavity, incision drainage

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query.
From what I understand The swelling over the neck is because of the spread of infection through the tisssue plane.
Considering your medicines medicines, it takes minimum of 24-48 hours for the swelling to come down. Nothing to worry the combination of Amoxicillin/clavulnic acid and metronidazole is the best of choice to treat tooth abscess. Continue the same course of antibiotics.
Wait for one more day, if there is no improvement in the swelling, then consult your dentist and get the tooth access cavity opening done so that the pus will drain through the tooth. Or incision and drainage can be performed. Once the infection comes down the tooth can be treated.
You have not mentioned about your medical history, considering your age i would suggest you to get a random blood sugar level checked once.
I hope my answer will help you, take care.

Thank you but I had a sugar test at the end of last year with a prick in the figure and it recorded 5.2. Blood pressure yesterday was 180/79. Even though I am older I still am very active and work 10 x 14 hour shifts and 4 off followed by a 24 on 4 off. Hope this replies to your concerns and look forward to your feed back. I re visited the doctor today to show him the swelling in the neck and he feels confident it is the glands swelling and he is also confident the medication should start to kick in by 48 hours. it just seems to be taking a long time. he also advised I can take panadene fort to relieve the pain while I am waiting for the medication to take some form of action. What's your thoughts. Cheers

Brief Answer:
antibiotics and analgesics

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your information. I just wanted to rule out high blood sugar level which inceases the risk of infection. Your report is fine. Nothing to be panic or worried. Complete the course of antibiotics and alagesics and get the tooth treated. Do saline gargling. You will be fine in two days.
your blood pressure s slightly high. If you are going for tooth removal then get a opinion and consent from the physician..
Take care.

So big pain at the bottom of the neck where it adjoins the collar bone is part of the pain being encountered?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Mahesh Kumar T S (8 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Lymphnode involvement, RCT OR Extraction

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your reply,

The pain in the bottom of the neck is because of the lymphnode involvement and it will subside once the source of infection is treated.

Consult a dental surgeon and get the tooth treated, since you have already taken a course of antibiotics, you can go ahead with dental treatment by treating the tooth with either RCT or extraction..

Thank you, take care.

Thank you for your reply as it has eased my worrying considerable. last night I had this massive pain in the left collar bone area but my temperature was maintaining 36.8 C which I believe to be ok. My pulse rate was a bit quicker at 83 which I don't believe to be too dangerous. I did and I hope I was permitted to taking this type of medication take 1 x Ibuprofen tablet and it relieved things and got some sleep. Yes I take all your valuable comments onboard but the problem where I live in remote Queensland I have a few months wait to get into a dentist but have got my name down for attention asap. Again thanks for your help to get through this as it is so much appreciated.
Kindest Regards and hope you can clear up taking ant inflammatory is ok.

Brief Answer:
anti inflammatory, ibuprofen

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your reply.

Yes, you can take anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen. Since you are in remote area, for time being you can take ibuprofen along with a course of antibiotics.

The antibiotics provide temporary relief, for the problem to be solved the cause has to be removed. If the infection gets aggravated you can take a course of antibiotics with analgesics. But try to get the tooth treated as early as possible.

Take care.
