Question : My knuckles keep swelling and cracking open. Not sure what to take or put on them to heal. They have been like this for over a month

Hi,

Thanks for your question on HCM and I do understand your concern

With such a presentation on my clinic, I would first rule out osteoarthritis by doing a physical examination and you may be advised an X-ray to confirm it.you can take pain killer for pain and swelling but it is not recommended for long time so you may need few lifestyle change as below-:

1)Do exercise regularly and by doing it your muscle will be strengthened.

2)Try to lose your weight if you are over weight

3)Use heat and cold to control pain and inflammations

4)Apply OTC creams on affected joints which may help swelling.

5)Do not give stress on affected joints

6)Do Take multivitamin caps and calcium regularly
