What Causes Swollen Ankles And Legs While Suffering From Hydronephrosis?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Feb 2017
Question: I have a horseshoe kidney with years of infections and stones. A month ago I underwent leg lips. Swelled very little and doing well until 2 2weeks ago. Now have kidney infections and likely hydranephrosis. My ankles, feet and lower leg are very swollen and I can't get them better. If I push on my ankle bone, my finger outline stays for quite a bit. Do I need a diuretic? I am taking Cipro.

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the details provided. It seems that there is an obstruction associated with your horseshoe kidney. The resultant backpressure is leading to hydronephrosis and thereby deterioration of kidney function. This is possibly the reason for your edema. Diuretics need to be taken but more importantly a DTPA and DMSA scan needs to be done in order to evaluate the structural and functional condition. Blood creatinine level also needs to be checked. You should visit a nephrologist with the reports. This is important.
