What Causes Swollen Ankles While On Amlodipine?
Question: Kindly refer earlier discussions. Since May'2015, I am taking Amodep 5mg (amlodepine) as advised by you and BP is well maintained since then( in range of 130-125 / 85-80)
Of late, I started experiencing following which could be side effect of Amlodepine:
-Big Swollen ankles( I have sitting job, which requires 8-10 sitting, by evening my Ankles have big swelling)
-Extreme tiredness whole day (always feel tired and sleepy)
-Mentally feel dullness (Which is effecting in my job and my personal life)
-Always have Blood shot eyes (need to put medicine in eyes 4-5 times)
Is it side effect of Amlodepine ? Do I need to change medicine ?

I have read your query and understand your concern.
AMLODIPINE is known to cause swelling in ankles but considering your symptoms of very big swelling in ankles along with severe fatigue and mental dullness, I am of the view that there may be something else which is causing your symptoms.
AMLODIPINE does cause swelling but not such severe swelling.
This swelling could be because of kidney involvement,hypothyroidism,anaemia with hypoprotenemia,uncontrolled high blood pressure etc.
Considering the fact that there can be various reasons for your symptoms,I would advise you to consult your doctor and get yourself tested on above lines.
In the meantime you can also go for change of blood pressure medicine like RAMIPRIL 5 mg. Regarding this you should talk to your treating doctor for prescription who can also add some diuretic like AQUAZIDE 12.5 mg to your treatment.
