Question : My wife is 50, has swollen glands in her throat and pain on the right side of her neck since yesterday.
Brief Answer:
Throat infection usually cures itself. Strep test and examination advisable
Detailed Answer:
Dear Patient,
this is very likely a throat infection caused by virus or bacteria. It is recommendable to have a GP or ENT have a look in her throat and if there are any white spots on the tonsils do a swap test for strep.-bacteria. In that case antibiotic treatment can make this heal faster. Other than that this usually cures itself within approx. a week. You can get otc medication for throat pain such as throat drops, also sage tea and gargling salt water is often helpful.
Best regards
