Question : 3 year old grandson awoke with a swollen and itchy upper lip, has not eaten anything new. No other symptoms
Took Benadryl as ordered by nurse, what could this be?

Thanks for the query. most likely this was insect bite or some respiratory allergene. Also it could be food aditive. very rarely it can cause some serious problems but it would be smart to have allergy testing to verify specific alrgenes which could cause allergies in future.
