Question : my friend is a 29 yr old XXXXXXX XXXXXXX man. he has this problem (doesn't happen too often) when this large swollen lump pops out on the left side of his abdomen. he has went to the dr for it and they told him it was considered a sport's injury because 4 yrs ago he was playing basketball in college. he is no longer involved in sports but every once in a while this knot comes back and sticks out & the only way we can get it to stop hurting him is if we massage it. we have googled and did research on all the possibilities it could be. only 2 things we can come up with is his appendix or his gull bladder due to where it is located. what could this possibly be???

Brief Answer:
He should be investigated.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
In your description, you have written as swelling in the left side of the abdomen. But,appendix and gall.bladder are located on right side of the abdomen.
In my opinion, he should get an Ultrasound abdomen. If it is inconclusive, CT Scan abdomen will confirm the diagnosis.
Please consult your doctor and get investigated.
Nothing to worry.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
