What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes In The Neck, Facial Pain And Fatigue?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Feb 2017
Question: 24 year old female has been home for one week with what she believed to be a severe cold. She has facial pain, headache, fatigue, sleeping more than usual. BP is 140/90 with visible lymph nodes along neck. No fever, but urinating less than usual given the amount of fluids taking in.
She saw a nurse practitioner who sent her home with flonase. Is this reasonable approach.

Brief Answer:
Was she evaluated for infectious mononucleosis?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have reviewed your information fully. With the symptoms and lymph nodes, I will suggest that she gets evaluated for possible infectious mononucleosis. This is common in sexual active persons. Treatment consists in managing the symptoms with tylenol, bed rest, avoiding contact sports. This increased blood pressure would be most likely related to her worried state and not necessarily that she’s hypertensive. This should however be controlled to make sure it is not a permanent increase.

In all, let her get evaluated for infectious mononucleosis. Bed rest, increased fluids, bed rest and avoid contact sport. These, in addition to the already prescribed measures.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
