What Causes Swollen Right Cheek Along With Pain In Neck And Shoulder?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Sep 2015
Question: I have a swollen right cheek and it's partially swollen down into my jaw/ and is making the back of my neck and part of my shoulder hurt. I have been put on antibiotics for it and they have seemed to have helped a small bit but it's still swollen and the area is red and hot to the touch but not all the time. The red hotness comes and goes. It seems to be worse in the evenings and on that side I have a horrible post nasal drip going on also

Brief Answer:
CT /MRI, Blood tests

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history and the image.

I would like to know a few more details so that I can assist you more:
- Since how many days have you got this problem?
- Any dental problems on the same side?
- Any investigations done so far?
-
Since you are already under an antibiotic and medicinal cover I would advise in such a case the following:
Tests of blood to see the WBC and sugar
CT/MRI scan of the whole area to see the origin of infection as you have post nasal drip, to see for the sinuses, maxilla, dental area, the nature of inflammation, whether there is pus collection and so on. This alone can tell us exactly the process going on inside so that the proper additional treatment can be planned.

I hope this answer helps you.
Please give the feedback so that we can discuss further.

I have had this current flair up now going on 10-12 days now. I do have some dental problems a wisdom tooth on both sides that are completely fractured but dead as far as the last xrays showed. This is not the first time ive had this happen on the side of my face the last episode of this was back in march of 2014 and i can not remember what exactly happened but it was not treated with antibiotcs at that time. Investigation wise we have blood work pending results. My sugar i keep checked
At home as diabetes runs in my family but my numers are always within range sometimes under.

Brief Answer:
awaiting for the reports

Detailed Answer:
Hi. Thanks for your feedback.
Sorry for a bit late due to continuous surgeries, please bear with me.

Note that this is a flare up for the last 10-12 days after march 2014.
The dental problem may be the most probable cause and it is good to know that your blood sugar is normal.
Please let me know the results of your tests and go for the tests as I mentioned above to get a definitive diagnosis and the most curative treatment.
