What Causes Swollen Salivary Glands Under The Jaw?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 Dec 2016
Question: Since last Sunday(12-4) I have had a swollen gland on the right side of my face under my jaw. The swelling goes down after applying a hot water bottle but flares up again overnight. I had a cold about a month ago. I am 66 years old.

Brief Answer:
Seems sialadenitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the query

As you are saying that sweeling disappears on hot fomentation to reappear, it seems to be infection of the submandibular gland.
I would suggest you to go for an ultrasound submandibular region and send me your reports.
For now start with a short course of antibiotics like amoxyclav 625.
Also take diclofenac (you need a prescription for these drugs).
Follow up with reports.
I am always available for your future queries whenever you have.

Wishing you a speedy recovery
