What Causes Swollen Tonsil With A Couple Of Tiny White Spots On It?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 May 2014
Question: Hi there, I have had a slightly swollen tonsil with a couple of tiny white spots on it for about 5 months. It flares up when I'm run down. Sore throat comes and goes. I sleep on my right side and it is my right tonsil that is swollen. I wear an invisilyn brace. I've been on antibiotics now for 5 days and it has not gotten any better. I had tonsillitis just before Christmas and didn't finish the course as I experienced such bad stomach cramps from them but it seemed to get better by itself. I am 35.

Brief Answer:
Tonsillitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello.Delighted to be able to help.
It seems that Tonsillitis that you suffered before Christmas was not completely healed because you do not you finished the antibiotic. Now would be advisable to take potent antibiotic such Amoxicillin-Clavulanate 875/125 mg thrice a day, 8 days.If after taking the antibiotic for 8 days your symptoms persist, your doctor must collect a sample of pharynx-tonsil secretion to analyze.
Please consult your doctor for a prescription.
I Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.If you do not have any clarifications, please don’t forget to evaluate my answer.I wish you good health.

Thank you for this. I had thought it was not possible to have these symptoms just on one side for so long? I am now taking clarithromycin 500mg one twice a day. Should this also do the job? Of course I will remember to leave feedback.

Brief Answer:
Tonsillitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Delighted to be able to help.

It is possible to have these symptoms just on one side for so long.

Clarithromycin is not the most appropriate antibiotic for Tonsillitis and upper respiratory tract infections. As I said, the most potent antibiotic is Amoxicillin-Clavulanate.Other less potent antibiotics but too effectives are Cefuroxime and Cefixime.Cefuroxime 500 mg twice a day and Cefixime 400 mg per day, both for

7-10 days. Please consult your doctor for a prescription.

Hope, I have answered your query.I wish you good health.
