Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.
You seem to be down with a viral infection.
Would you clarify a few things for me, please?
* how often do you get symptoms similar to this?
*do you have any other medical issues or take any medications?
*do you have any phlegm /sputum while coughing?
*any breathing difficulty or chest discomfort?
*any headache?
*do you have any history of allergies?
*any change in voice?
I recommend :
- plenty or warm fluids.
-steam inhalation thrice a day
- warm saline gargles twice a day.
-keep your sleep environment moist. Avoid air conditioning if possible. (too hot and too cold air can dry up your respiratory mucosa and worsen symptoms/delay recovery).
-take rest.
-take a vitamin C supplement - 500mg, one at morning and 1 in the evening by 4pm. Use the ones you can swallow or dissolvable ones. Avoid chewables (can irritate the throat).
These measures should offer relief. The infection usually takes 7-10 days to run its course.
You do not need to see a doctor right away.
If, however, you develop fever, breathing difficulty, chest discomfort, severe throat pain or if this doesn't settle in 2 weeks, please see your physician.
Hope this helps. Please get back to me with the above requested clarifications so that I may help you further.
Hope you get better soon. Wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
