What Causes Swollen Uvula In A Marijuana User?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 May 2016
Question: I am a everyday weed smoker(a couple hits a day after work) for the last 6 years In the last month or so I've noticed that My uvula would slightly swell up and I would kind of miss a swallow and sort of gag for a second(if I smoked it would happen like once or twice each time. . For the last few days though every time i smoke my uvula elongates significantly and touches the back of my tounge and my throat slightly swells up. This making it very hard to swallow and a huge annoyance. Could I have tonsillitis or developed a slight allergy to weed(I know how uncommon that is) I'm allergic to amoxicillin.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Marijuana has long-lasting damaging effects on the pharynx (the back of the throat). It causes inflammation and weakens the immune system, making you prone to infection. It is like you are having irritation directly linked to the marijuana itself, possibly with an infection on top of that.

I would recommend you to visit a doctor for an in-person exam to consider antibiotics. This does not sound like an allergy to me.

Please let me now if there's any further doubt..
