What Causes Tender Nipples With Discharge?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Sep 2015
Question: I am a healthy 23 year old female who is experiencing very tender nipples. I squeezed on them and experienced a white foggy lactate for my very first time. My period is late, however I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. No major changes in life style or diet. No former medical issues. Nipples have been sensitive for 7-10 days.

Brief Answer:
Check serum prolactin

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for your query.

I have read you query and I understand your concerns about white foggy lactate.

Following is my reply:

1) White milky fluid is seen if serum prolactin levels are high.

2) This has nothing to do with the pregnancy and does not mean you are pregnant.

3) Get serum prolactin hormone levels tested in any laboratory to know if levels are normal.

4 ) Sensitive nipples does not indicate pregnancy and are normal.

I hope I answered you query and addressed your concerns.

Let me know if you wish to ask any further questions. I will be glad to help you.

Regards,
Dr. Soumya.
