Brief Answer:
Recommendations.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

The problem may be due to arthritis or there might be an injury to the muscles of the rotator cuff or upper arm, depending on the location of the pain.

I strongly recommend going in to either your doctor (if he or she can see you soon) or an urgent care clinic where they can figure out by examination what muscle group or area is the problem. I also strongly recommend an X-ray of the shoulder/upper arm to see if that shows anything that can provide information about what is going on. That is the place to start.

If you tolerate Aleve, you can continue to take this (I recommend taking it after you have food in your stomach to prevent irritation of the stomach lining). Use heat if it helps. You can try cold too, to see if that is better.

If the pain is quite bad, and I am guessing from your description that it is, if I were you I would head over to the urgent care clinic where they can examine and X-ray.

I hope this helps and you are doing better soon!
