Question: what could cause water with some foam type bubbles to be expelled from the rectum. Had oral thrush a number of months back that has cleared up with medication. could this be related to that?

Brief Answer:
Not related to oral thrush.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
Have gone through your details and i appreciate your concerns.

Your stools may appear foamy if there's too much fat or mucus in your stool. Mucus can look like foam or be found with foam in stool.Presence of watery stools with foam like bubbles is suggestive of Gastroenteritis which could be either bacterial or protozoal(Amoeoba).
In gastroenteritis gut is infected by these organism leading to inflammation of intestines hence water and food is not absorbed properly causing loose stools.

Most of the time this is caused by virus however sometimes an overlapping bacterial or parasitic infection can be there hence initially i would suggest you to go for a stool microscopic examination.

Rx
Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration–You need to drink more than usual to replace the fluids lost from vomiting and diarrhoea. Water is best, but you could also try fruit juice and soup.

If you feel like eating, try small amounts of plain foods, such as soup, rice, pasta and bread.
Use special rehydration drinks made from sachets electral solution to maintain depleted electrolyte levels in serum.

Take a short term course of antibiotic with antiprotozoal.
Tab A pack (Azithromycin) 500 mg once daily for 3 days
Tab Meronidazole 400 mg thrice daily for 3 days.

keep on taking probiotic for few more weeks.
Follow up with reports of stool.

thank you so much for your information. May I add one thing-( which I should have before) the water and foam is not usually in my stools. It comes out when I feel like I have some gas or will make a bowl movement. the water is perfectly clear with some floating foam bubbles. Does this make any difference to your previous information. Thanks so much.

most of the time they are formed normally with a good volume -once in a while rather loose an inconsistent usually when I seem to have the passing water problem with occasional stomach growling This may happen for a day or two then a day or two of normal stools. This has gone on for a number of months and has me concerned even though I feel perfectly fine otherwise. Tried changing my diet thinking it could be candida -I get back to normal for a while then it starts again. Thanks for your diet recommendation I will start using them. I had been staying away form pasta and bread ( some of my favorites ) hoping that would help but it hasn't.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again dear,
Initially i would suggest you to follow what i said earlier however if not relieved then a colonoscopy should be done.
Have you ever had a colonoscopy done? After the age of 50, it is recommended that all people should have a colonoscopy every 5-10 years. Even if you have had this test in the last 5 years it might be recommended to repeat it .It will tell us ecact pathology behind the problem.

However as of now follow medicines as adviced by me.

Thanks!
