What Causes The Right Collarbone To Be Higher Than The Left?

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Aug 2015
Question: My right collar bone (sternoclavicular joint) is raised higher than my left. I have been doing crossfit and Olympic lifting for almost 8 years and suspect it could be calcium build up from some accidental pounding from the olympic bar. Is there any fix for this? Anything that can remove the build up (if that's what it is) or is that just part of of the bone now? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Can be a bony calcification.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The slight rise in the right sternoclavicular joint can be due to a minor crack in the bone due to an injury that has calcified now giving rise to the rise. An X-ray will help in confirming the cause.
If the area has calcified then it cannot reduce or cannot be fixed. It can be a normal physiological variation or a soft tissue swelling also. In case it is a soft tissue swelling then a lymph node or a sebaceous cyst needs to be ruled out after a proper examination. You can consult your orthopedician for a direct examination and confirmation of diagnosis.
I hope this answers your query.
