Question: Male, age 31, suddenly yesterday afternoon developed swelling and redness of feet. Now spreading up ankle and lower leg. Feet are double their size because of the edema. Also looks like some blisters forming. He is on many mental health medications - quetiapine 100 mg and 400 mg, sertraline 50 mg, prazosin 2 mg lithium 600 mg and gabapentin 800 mg

The sudden onset of the swelling worries me. I would insist you to get his blood pressure checked. Depending upon whether it is high, treatment interventions can be planned. A diuretic like furosemide might also be needed to be given but should be given only after the careful consideration of a doctor. The blood levels of proteins can be checked subsequently. I would insist you to let me know the blood pressure and to take him to a hospital so that a doctor could examine him and suggest.
