What Causes Throbbing Pain In The Leg?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Jan 2017
Question: my 13 year old daughter came home complaining of bad pain in her left leg only that was in the hip and ran down the side of her leg, she described it as feeling like the pain of a bruise but also shooting and throbbing pain. The outside of her thigh is extremely tender to touch, although the pain when she walks is more in the outside hip and then in the outside calf. She said that she hasn't done any specific physical activity, like gymnastics or running that day. She had a physio appointment for going onto pointe shoes 36 hours prior to the onset of the pain. No temperature. I'm thinking it my be sciatic pain, or something else temporary but wondering if I should just leave it and see what happens or take her to see a GP.

Brief Answer:
Ensure a proper clinical examination

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Do not worry. At present, I would recommend you to visit a pediatrician for proper clinical evaluation to rule out any deep vein thrombosis, cellulitis or sciatic nerve associated pain.

You may give her acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain relief at present.

Investigations such as Doppler or NCV ( Nerve conduction velocity) may be needed as per clinical evaluation.

Hopefully it will be of help.
Take care
