Ca be hip joint issue or tendon inflammation
Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,
when someone with your symptoms comes to my office i usually suggest the following depending on the findings after clinical examination:
1.) Could be tendon inflammation of the main thigh tendon (called tractus iliotibialis). Here nsaid medication like naproxen can help or a local cortisone shot. This gets diagnosed by typical pain responding to pressure through clinical examination. This better gets cooled rather than applying warmth.
2. Can also be a hip joint problem like arthrosis/ arthritis. Here i usually recommend an x ray to find the cause. Therapy would by physical therapy and also antiinflammatory medication.
Hope this is helping you , if you have any clarificatons you can get back to me, if this was helpful please kindly rate my answer. Best regards
