What Causes Tightness In The Abdomen During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Oct 2016
Question: Hi Dr XXXXXXX

I am 34 weeks pregnant .Few questions I wanted to ask

I sometimes feel tightness in tummy .Is it common or something to worry. There is no pain in the abdomen.

I know chinese food should be avoided during pregnancy as it contains MSG.But yesterday, I was having craving and I ate 2 spoons of chowmein. Now really freaking out as read in internet that Msg leads to breakage of placental barrier and effects da brain of the growing baby.Kindly clarify.

At 34 weeks,is the brain of the child fully developed.Wat organs are stil left to develop.

I sumtimes feel slight pain in my tummy on sides which goes off in a second.Movements are regular.Anything to worry.

Is it safe to take Ecosprin 75 in 8th month.

How would a mother know if placenta has broken?

Brief Answer:
Mild occasional pain is normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
At 34 weeks pregnancy mild tightness in the lower abdomen is normal. If there is no associated pain then you need not worry.
Just taking two spoons of chowmein is not going to damage the placental barrier. All these are to be avoided on long term basis. Taking one or two teaspoonfuls just once will not cause any harm.
At 34 weeks, most of the differentiation of all the organs is complete. It is now time for proper maturity of all the organs. The brain development is almost complete by now.
Mild pain or cramps are normal at this time. In case the pain is recurrent or persistent then it needs treatment.
Ecosprin can be continued till full term. Placenta does not break. It is the membranes that break. The moment the membranes break, there will be leakage of lots of watery liquor. You will come to know immediately.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Restrict the salt intake.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The BP is on a higher side. You need to restrict your salt intake. Sitting in XXXXXXX style daily will help in relaxing the pelvic muscles will help in a normal delivery. There is no harm in doing so if it does not cause any pain in the lower abdomen.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Brief Answer:
Being stress free will help.

Detailed Answer:
The BP can get elevated due to the hormonal changes during pregnancy. It is better to restrict your daily salt intake to less than 3.5 grams per day.
Taking bed rest will help in better blood circulation to the baby that will help in normal growth of the baby. Remaining stress free will hep in decreasing BP.

Brief Answer:
Urine infection needs to be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
The white discharge in urine and burning can be due to a urinary infection. It is best to get a routine urine test done to rule out the infection. It is not related to BP.
Stress does effect the pregnancy to some extent. But since all your scans are normal there is no need to worry.
Lets wait for your next scan and hope for the best.
Regards.
