Brief Answer:
Nerve compression.

Detailed Answer:
If someone complains of tingling and numb effect of the hand as soon as he wakes up the most common cause is the compression of the nerve during sleep. Most often they recover soon within hours without any sequelae. They just have to make sure that there is no additional compression on the nerve.
If there is recurrent problem it is most likely to due to carpal tunnel syndrome of the median nerve at the wrist join, seen in occupational disorder. If you work on the computer for longer hours you may succumb to this disorders.
I suggest a clincial evaluation by Neurologist first. NCV and needle prick test will be done while assessing the tone and power of the muscles.
