What Causes Tingling Feeling And Altered Taste Sensation In The Tongue?

default
Posted on Fri, 8 Sep 2017
Question: My tongue is tingling and has a bitter and sometimes metallic taste. My dentist suggested a multi-vitamin with the B vitamins and iron. I have been taking these for two weeks. Sometimes it seems better, but it is very bad today. Nothing tastes good. Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Causes of tingling of tongue

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health concern,

Tingling and altered taste sensation of tongue can be due to vitamin deficiency, decreased sugar levels, decreased calcium levels in the body, XXXXXXX stroke etc.

Blood investigations measuring blood glucose levels, vitamin B12 and folate levels, serum calcium and vitamin D levels are warranted at this point.

If you have any other associated symptoms like muscle weakness, dizziness, headache, speech problems, facial dropping, tingling in other parts of the body, Then a CT scan of the brain is recommended to rule out stroke.

Please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider for further evaluation and management.

Meanwhile, continue vitamin tablets. Vitamin deficiency needs time to get corrected, especially if you are on medications like Metformin, proton pump inhibitors.
