Posted on Sat, 21 Feb 2015
Question: I thought i had pin worms. Took 2 doses of pin x, scrubbed washed and had lab test my feces for parasites. The test came back no parasites. I have a crawling sensation near my anus. Kind of tingles and can itch. What can this be. Was given triamcinolone acetonide cream. Don't think it's helping.

Brief Answer:
treatment and tests after 2 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I went through your query and understand your concern.

Your symptoms are suggesting parasitic infection like Enterobius vermicularis which is an intestinal nematode. It usually causes severe itching especially at nights. Sometimes one stool test is not sufficient. I advise you must get at least 3 consecutive stool samples tested. You can also apply cellulose acetate tape in morning and send it for microscopy examination for parasites. Also get your full haemogram done. As you have taken antihelminthics I suggest you repeat the tests after 2 weeks before taking another dose of albendazole or mebendazole after 2 weeks full course. It is sometimes seen patients develop excoriation and superinfection in perineum you can apply triple action cream as only steroid based cream wouldn't help. If itching is severe take antihistamines like cetrizine at night. Get all the household members treated. Maintain good hygiene and properly do hand washing. Wash fruits and vegetables properly. Cook raw vegetables properly.

I hope I answered your query.
