What Causes Tingling In Arm Along With Dizziness And Muscle Jerks?

Question: For the past few months i've been experiencing random neurological symptons that come and go. Firstly, Ive experienced tingling in one arm thst comes and goes. My neurologist dismissed it and suggested that it may be the way I.m lying on at night or some other mild irritant. When it comes back its always in that arm and it lasts less than 24 hours. I then started to experience random "dizziness." I put the term "dizziness" in quotation marks because i dont know how to describe it. It is a weird sensation in my head ( like a heavy feeling) accompanied by feeling a little off balance ( ive never fallen over and I didn't dispaly any abnormal gait) and it doesnt feeling like disequillibrium or vertigo. This came on suddenly one day, disappeared for a week, came back and lasted less than a day, and then came back and lastd for a week, went away for another week, and came bsck and lasted for a couple of days. Ive also expereinced a tremor (postural) that comes and goes and switches between hands. Now, recenwtly, i've experienced some random muscle twitching wnd jerking, not enough for a limb to move, but enough to be annoying on occasion.my concern is that I may have ms. I know that I am proned to anxiety, but I cant shake the feeling that this is something serious ( though my neurologist strongly believes it isnt). Do these symtpons sound more like ms or anxiety or some other condition?

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are more suggestive of anxiety.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and agree that the most likely cause of your symptoms is anxiety. These are unlikely to be due to MS or another serious neurological illness.

Dizziness is suggestive of peripheral vertigo, which is often due to minor dysfunction in the inner ear and it is self limiting in nature.

Muscle twitches are often due to strain and benign fasciculations.

Tremors are most often due to anxiety.

All these symptoms tend to get worse with anxiety.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Would random muscle jerks be causd by anxiety as well? They dont move any limb but they are concerning

Brief Answer:
Anxiety can precipitate jerks.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

Random muscle jerks are most often due to a condition called as "benign fasciculations", which are self-limiting in nature too. Other cause of these jerks could be excessive strain (physical or mental). Anxiety can aggravate these jerks.

Thank you! I was concerned becuase i read that ms could lead to muscle spasticity and myoclonus. What is the difference between myoclonus, twitch, and a spasm. What kind of myoclonus is usually caused by ms? I appreciate your help and patience

Brief Answer:
MS can cause these symptoms, but rare.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

In diagnosis of a disease, symptom is not so important. This is because most diseases of nervous system would produce similar sounding symptoms.

It is the combination of symptoms, duration of symptoms, their progression over time, etc would decide the disease, which are confirmed by further investigations.

Muscle spasticity and myoclonus are more often caused by other diseases than MS. These include spinal cord injury, brain stroke, head injury, infection of spinal cord and brain, etc.

Myoclonus is a jerk of limb, often able to move a joint.

Twitch is a contraction of muscle, not able to move a joint.

Spasm refers to increase in tone of muscle(s).

What are the differences between anxiety induced dizziness and ms induced dizziness?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sudhir Kumar (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Dizziness alone does not occur in MS.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

In MS, if there is dizziness, there would be additional symptoms such as blurred or double vision, imbalance while walking, slurred speech, etc.

In anxiety, dizziness can occur alone.
