Brief Answer:
Such symptoms can occur due to anxiety.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from Health Care Magic for your health related queries

Tingling in arm triggered by emotions like anger or crying could be occurring due to some anxiety, though detailed physical examination is needed before making proper diagnosis. Normally in crying or anger individual develop anxiety and fight and flight reaction. This results in redistribution of blood flows to different parts of body and individuals may feel numbness and tingling. Noradrenalin is involved in this reaction which is also a neurotransmitter involved in pathophysiology of anxiety.

Other possible reasons for such symptoms are nutritional deficiencies like Anaemia, Vitamin B12 deficiency. Both these deficiencies should be ruled out before making anxiety as cause of such symptoms. Hypertension can be also a reason for such symptoms so get your BP checked to rule out hypertension as cause of such symptoms. Physical conditions like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can be a cause of unilateral tingling but occurrence of symptoms mainly during crying and anger practically rules out this diagnosis, secondly pain is also a presenting symptom in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

In most cases usually tingling in both arms is seen but some times it start with unilateral tingling especially on left side.

If you are not having any significant impairment due to this tingling then as per my opinion there is nothing needed to be done. You can avoid excess emotion provoking situations that may lead to anxiety. Try to control anxiety and emotions by doing relaxation exercises daily and you will see improvement.

I would like to know a little more details about your symptoms like
How many times a week you have such symptoms?
If you are having pain as symptom along with tingling?
If you drink alcohol and if you suffered any trauma on that limb in recent past?
If you have symptoms like tremors along with tingling?

Please provide these details in follow up questions along with any other complaint or detail you are facing so that I can comment with more details.

Thanks, take care

Hello and thank you for your response.
Aside from the tingling and numbness I feel like a tightening sensation that extends from mid upper arm to mid forearm on the same left side. About 5 years ago something happened to me with this same arm. I was fastening my undergarment and when I brought my arm forward I felt tightness and my fingers kind of twisted and stood this way for a couple of minutes. I instantly panicked because I thought I was having a heart attack and went to the hospital and they ruled out heart attack. I am assuming that because I panicked I felt a sensation of doom and I could not even swallow. But once everything was cleared I was a little at ease. But since then I get these weird episodes and I have never been properly diagnosed.

I also get these tingling, numbness and at times I feel tightness within the same area. I get these symptoms almost daily. I do have to admit I also live in a high level stress environment and can be easily agitated.

I do not consume alcohol or have any social habits. Please help me to try and figure this out. This is really stressful as well. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Most likely symptoms are due to anxiety but medical causes to be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for providing details in follow up question

You have mentioned that the numbness and tingling is persisting and occurs in left arm only, some times associated with tightness and these symptoms occur daily. Such symptoms can occur due to some cardiac cause but it has been already ruled out. You also have stressful environment and agitation problems. History of panic while you developed tightness in arms and fear of heart attack also strengthens Anxiety as cause for your symptoms.

As I have mentioned in my last answer get your self checked for Vitamin B12 deficiency, Hypertension and also if you have little pain then for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (rare possibility). This will rule out common medical conditions.

Try to do relaxation exercises during these attacks. Breathing Exercises, Progressive Muscle Exercises will help to divert your mind and you will feel relaxed. This will result in reduction of your symptoms. As these symptoms are usually getting triggered on anger or crying so this also supports our diagnosis of anxiety as cause of your symptoms.

I would advise you to not to worry and if these symptoms are really bothersome then consult a psychiatrist for evaluation at least once. This will reassure you and you will feel better.

Thanks, hope this helps you. Please ask again for more doubts.

Take Care
