What Causes Tingling Sensation, Sensitivity In Fingers And Wrist Pain?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Jun 2016
Question: I have been having trouble with my fingertips for the past year. They feel "withered " at times, just feel funny, They are more sensitive to heat and cold. Also, most of the things I touch feel gritty. That bothers me most of all. I went to a neurologist, who diagnosed carpal tunnel and gave me braces to wear on both hands. However, the braces have not helped. There is no pain in my hand or wrist. Just the strange feeling in my fingertips on both hands, no pain. Can you tell me what this might be and if it can be corrected? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Possible Raynaud's disease.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Madam.

I can certainly understand your concern.

As per your narrated history, this could possibly be a vascular cause rather than a neurological one.

This could represent Raynaud's disease.

I advise you get a Duplex Color Doppler ultrasound of the vessels of the upper limb.

Additionally I advise you to get a complete ANA profile to rule out the association of an occult autoimmune disease.

Further management if any is based on test results.

Meanwhile I prescribe oral pills of Nifedepine once a day at bedtime for 3 monthsto improve your symptoms.

Please check with your physician if he shares my view and if can prescribe these pills to you.

Post your further queries if any
Thank you.
