Question : My dad is 81, he has no health issues, active. He was diagnosed with thyroid recently. He has been feeling tired after eating in the afternoon for more than2/3 years. I think he feels tired now after eating in the morning too. He eats within limit . Has alchohol limitedly in the night and eats lightly. He does not want to eat due to the tiredness he feels. He lives in XXXXXXX with diet being more vegetarian-rice,veggies/lentils/curd. Any suggestions?thanks
Brief Answer:
Need to look beyond thyroid.
Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern. The tiredness soon after eating is unlikely to be due to thyroid. At this age, we need to rule out many other health issues including parkinsonism and myasthenia as possible causes. He need a good physical examination and focused history. You could arrange for an internal medicine consultation. Apart from thyroid, he also need check up for diabetes, anemia etc.
Please feel free to discuss further if you have more queries.

He has been tested recently and does not have diabeties or other issues. Had Vitamin D issues. He did endoscopy and everything is fine. Please let me know if anything else could cause this. Should we just attribute this to age factor? He is healthy otherwise and can drive a two wheeler. And mentally active. Could insulin resistance or other metabolic issues could be involved?
Brief Answer:
Need further evaluation
Detailed Answer:
As I said earlier, we need to rule out parkinsonism as a possible factor which is common at this age.
Depression is another common thing at this age ( especially when you mentioned that all investigations were negative).
Does he have weight loss? Memory issues? Forgetfulness ? Lack of sleep at night and more sleepy during day?
