What Causes To Hyperacusis?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Oct 2014
Question: We have from past few years observed My daughter to be very sensitive to external loud sounds like crackers at distance, Ceremony /festival drums, Movie theater sounds or class room audio system sounds. She feels pained/troubled by the sound, We only thought that she might have very sharp and hence too sensitive hearing ability because of which even a remote loud sound troubles her, However we thought that it might go away as she grows. Now however we seek medical advise to understand if this is any known condition and whether we have medication or treatment to ease her discomfort. As far as Yashashree is concerned she is very bright , intelligent and active girl.

Brief Answer:
Course of treatment depend on cause of hyperacusis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Course of treatment depend on cause of hyperacusis in your daughter.

I would advice consult ENT specialist , get ENT examination done & investigations to find out cause of hyperacusis in your daughter.

Hyperacusis is difficult to treat if cause in unknown & one can get only partial relief.

Generally treatment is given for hyperacusis is with Hyperacusis (Tinnitus) Retraining Therapy.

In this therapy broadband pink noise CD can be used to deliver broadband pink noise to their ears for 6 month to decrease discomfort level at each frequency gradually .

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
