What Causes Tooth Sensitivity And Pain Post Temporary Crown Insertion?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Jun 2015
Question: Found out a tooth-molar-was fractured and needed a crown to save it. Had the tooth worked on today and temp crown fitted. Before i had the tooth worked on, occasionally had some pain when eating. Endo took xrays etc but said only fracture. Aftee today with tooth worked on i have strange sensitivity esp when clenching jaw together. Was there damage to the root or maybe bacteria got in and now it's damaged roots?

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Thanks for conaulting Healthcare magic .
This is Dr. Priyanka Tiwari answering your query .

Read your query and understand your concern . As far as senstivity in tooth with temporary crown fitted is concerned , I have following possibilites . It can be because of your crown is too 'high' . Initially your tooth may not hurt much at all but when times goes it become sensitive on clenching jaw .
The other possible cause can be temporary crown fit over tooth less precisely then permanent crown as a result temporary crown fall short of fully covering the entire tooth preperation resulting in dentin senstivity that you feel while clenching .
Nothing to be panic for this I will suggest you to consult you dentist for clinical examination of tooth and get treatment done. If your crown is 'high' then get high point removed or if underlying cause is dentin senstivity then dentist may apply a solution to protect the exposed dentin . Inmeantime do maintain good oral hygiene . Do warm saline rinses . You can use senstivity toothpaste like colgate senstive pro releif or sensodyne for senstivity .

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query feel free to ask I wil be happy to help
