What Causes Tremors In Hand Post Intake Of Lisinopril?

default
Posted on Sat, 6 Aug 2016
Question: I am experiencing some shakiness in my hands after being prescribed a new medication (Lisinopril). Could this be a side effect? I didn't see it listed in the information about the drug. My husband was taking it, had shakiness, was prescribed something different and now seems OK.

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be a side effect

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Lisinopril is a widely used drug which has been available for many years, so its side effects profile is well known. I must say that neither in the past nor from researching it again now I cannot find any reference to tremor (shaking) as a side effect. Even if one was to assume that this was a very rare side effect not reported previously, the chances of that rare event happening in two persons of the same household would be really low.

So I do not see it as a likely cause for this tremor. At times it may excessively lower blood pressure which may make one more shaky so blood pressure values should be monitored. If persistent some routine blood pressure to check for electrolyte alterations and thyroid function are advised as those could cause tremor.

I remain at your disposal for other questions.
