Posted on Fri, 23 May 2014
Question: I have been getting quite strong tremors in my lower left hand side of my stomach,, below navel, to the point you can see movement (the only thing I can liken it to is my baby kicking and moving at around 5/6 months pregnant... Which was 13 years, I keep well hydrated and eat a decent balanced diet. Suffer also from my ankle giving way and general muscle weakness especially in shoulders and hips at times, also severe fatigue in general, the muscle tremors are not new, used to get them in my back and legs a lot but feels extra irritating in my stomach, not sore just very strange and would like to know if there is any way of preventing them. Suffer also often from migraines but mainly just the aura and numbness, rarely with headache

Brief Answer:
Diverticulosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for your question.

In any premenopausal woman the first thing to ensure is that you are not pregnant. if you are sure about this or have done a pregnancy test then symptoms in the lower left hand part if your abdomen would typically be caused by a problem in the descending colon or sigmoid colon or possibly the uterus and or ovaries.

The commonest issue in this part of the bowel in the west is diverticular disease. This condition is one of having diverticula in the colon, where there are outpocketings of the colonic mucosa and submucosa through weaknesses of muscle layers in the colon wall. These are more common in the sigmoid colon, which is a common place for increased pressure.

This condition can be diagnosed on a tests such as a barium enema or a colonoscopy.

a pelvic ultrasound scan would demonstrate any abnormalities of you uterus or ovaries that would be responsible for your symptoms.

I hope this information helps you find a cause to your symptoms. you should arrange to see your dr who can perform a physical exam and further investigations to find a cause for your discomfort.

best wishes
