What Causes Trouble Hearing Along With Ear Bleeding?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Feb 2015
Question: Hello. My wife has just started taking warfarin for a-fib, and her INR today was 8. She received a vitamin K shot, but she appears to have a little blood loss from one ear, and she is having trouble hearing with that ear. Does this sound serious, and should I take her to the ER?

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that your wife is having loss of hearing. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any cold (running nose or cough) ?
Is her hearing loss associated with ear discharge ?

Due to high INR, bleeding is common through nose or from some injured site. bleeding could be from ear canal from simple scratch.

I suggest you to go to ER where ENT doctor is available and get detailed ent examination, otoscopy (retracted ear drum/perforation). If necessary, audiometry (to measure degree and type of deafness).

Meantime, do not put any ear drops. plug them with dry cotton during bath to prevent infection.stop consuming freezer products (curd/ice creams), cold causes ear drum infection.Do not do self cleaning with ear buds.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
