I have been under a lot of stress as my husband has health issues. What could this be?
Read below.
Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
That twitching of the finger which you describe might have several causes. One possible cause may be electrolyte imbalance issues such as low blood magnesium or calcium which can lead to muscle twiching in the fingers.
One other possible cause might be compression of a peripheral nerve supplying the muscles in that area, such as carpal tunnel syndrome due to compression of the median nerve in the wrist.
One other possibility might be a neurological condition such as Parkinson's disease.
However that being said, the most common cause turns out to be anxiety which considering the stress you state to have been under would be much more likely in your case than the above mentioned conditions. Those conditions also are accompanied most commonly by other symptoms, it is not usual for the twitching to be an isolated symptom. So for the moment I wouldn't run into unnecessary tests and consults, but if persistent over the weeks can schedule a neurological visit and a few routine blood tests.
I remain at your disposal for other questions.
how long should it last? Maybe stupid question,
but until my husband gets better, I don't
see the stress level going down soon.
He fractured his hip and has spinal stenosis.
hard to watch him being in so much pain

Detailed Answer:
It is not a stupid question at all, but not an easy one to answer either. Most commonly as you cope better with the situation it alleviates in a few weeks, but in some people more prone to anxiety may last longer, at time treatment needed. Depends a little from the husbands condition, hopefully he will improve, not be in as much pain and return to activity.
Some light exercise may help and also relaxation activities especially like yoga. As I said at times medication may be used, but preferably as a last resort.
