What Causes Twitching Sensation On The Temple?

default
Posted on Fri, 1 Jul 2016
Question: About an hour ago, I have developed a "twitch" sensation in my right temple area, and have never had a twitch there before. It's very unnerving to me as it seems to be occurring right over my temporal artery, though my pulse seems to be normal. I'm a 24 year old male, with a history of arrhythmia (AVNRT that was ablated, may have regenerated as of late), and pre-hypertension. I've also been suffering from vertigo for months now, and more recently in the past few weeks have occasionally been seeing "spots" of light for brief periods, from time to time, though thankfully I haven't passed out from it.

Due to my history, I'm a bit sensitive about anything that could be cardio-related. I'll admit that my current work and school schedule leaves me regularly quite sleep-deprived, and more than a little stressed. I also had a lot of caffeine right before the twitching began, though I'm accustomed to high levels of caffeine. My cardiologist booked me for an ECG and stress test in about two weeks, and I'm seeking a little advice in the mean time. Am I just psyching myself out over a simple twitch?

Brief Answer:
Anxiety and caffeine contributing to this!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this twitching that you have reported. Please, your anxiety and the caffeine are certainly related to this. Remember that tests are not to declare bad news but reassurance that all is well. If anything wrong is identified during testing, it gives us the unique opportunity to intervene and preserve your health. Your shouldn't be too worried about what the possible test results would be. I will also suggest that you cut down on your coffee consumption as this is not helpful given the history of arrhythmia and prehypertension. Take on on relaxing activities, visit and chat with friends and indulge in fun activities that you love. This will all return to normal and you shouldn't freak out this much.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.
