Pseudo-membranous colitis vs irritable bowel syndrome
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can understand your concern for your symptoms
1) History of prolong use of antibiotics may develop intestinal condition known as pseudo-membranous colitis in which excessive use of antibiotics kill normal intestinal bacterial which help in digestion. This lead to over-growth of abnormal strain of bacteria and lead to symptoms of loose stool, abdominal pain.
2) Second probability would be to have irritable bowel syndrome in which small intestine movement become fast due to irritation or allergy from particular food. Avoidance of such food help to improve the symptoms.
3) You must undergo colonoscopy with biopsy to rule out pseudo-membranous colitis and if required then upper GI endoscopy with biopsy from proximal part of small intestine to rule of irritable bowel syndrome (Celiac disease)
3) You can take anti-spasmodic medication (Drotaverine) to reduce pain intensity associated with loose stool. Also can take anti-diarrhea medication (Loperamide) to reduce frequency of loose stool and must avoid gluten rich diet (which aggravates symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome)
Hope I answered your query. If you have any further doubts, I would be happy to help you.
Have a nice day!
