Question : Dear Doctor,

Three days ago I was travelling by air and returning from vacation. During the travel, I noticed that I developed a rough patch at the beginning of my throat. I can feel it when I run my tongue across the left side of my throat. It feels like two small pimple sized spots or boils, a little bit firm (or hard), due to which I get the rough feeling when I run the tongue across. It doesn’t pain but since I am running my tongue across so many times, I think the area is getting a bit sore. I tried to see it in the mirror but couldn’t really figure out anything.

I would like to know if this is any cause for concern. I am not a smoker. I have vocal nodules which the doctor said is a common occurrence and I should give my throat some rest.

I would like to know if I need to rush to the doctor or should I wait and watch? Please could you advice me what these kinds small but firm spots in the throat mean? Do they come up if something is eaten or due to change in air pressure while travelling? I do not know as I am really just guessing.

You are most probably having viral throat infection with papules /vesicles

Thanks for the query.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

After reading your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having
viral throat infection with papules / vesicles . When they breaks result into canker sore .

I would advice kindly upload picture of your throat if possible .

No need to concern , you will get relief within 7-10 days . It is not cancer .Mostly they comes because of viral throat infection from air or food or water .

If I were your treating doctor , I would advice
drink plenty of water ,
Antiseptic Betadin / chlorhexidine Mouth Wash twice daily ,
Antihistaminic Tab Claritin (Loratadine 10mg) at night ,
Tab Vitamin C twice daily to promotes healing &
Tab paracetamol for soreness .

Continue medication for hypothyroidism .

You will get relief .

Dear Doctor,

Thank you for your reply. I do not have any symptoms of a viral infection like itchiness in the throat, fever, running nose, etc. So I am a bit confused when you say that it is probably a throat infection.

As stated before, I can only feel the firm spot / spots when I run my tongue on the left side of the throat (beginning of the throat).

Please advice Doctor if I can take a picture of the throat on my own.

I would advice you to take picture of your throat on your own & upload here, so that I can visualize and clinically correlate your signs and symptoms.

In initial stage of mild viral throat infection you will have only minimal or no symptoms .
For sign & symptoms that you have mentioned , treatment plan will be same as advised before.
