What Causes Unexplained Weight Loss?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Mar 2017
Question: My 26 year old daughter suddenly started loosing weight really fast. She is 5.5 and now weighs 100 pounds. She withdrew from suboxone treatment after 2 years and that is when it started. She is not using any drugs. She developed a ovarian cyst during this and we thought it was related to that, until yesterday when we went to obgyn who said cyst was gone and sent her back to er because she was in excursiating pain in her back (flank pain). The did bloodwork, found nothing , and gave her meds and sent her home and told her that because she was so malnorished her spine couldnt handle lifting her toddler. She also has severe endometriosis and the cousin of endometriosis. Had 2 surgeries before 18 one was excission and ther e was some on her bowels. Hospital treated her like a drug addict which she is over. I took her home last night with only nausea medicane and muscle relaxor. She has been very stressed but she is trying to eat and gets sick as soon as she does, shes hungry all the time but nauseated. She is not without family help or proper food. I am a mental health therapist for children and families. We don't know whats wrong and she just cries and says I'm in pain and sick and "I'm eating all the time mom". She lives at home with her father and I. Not sure how to proceed and what is going on. Seems PCP referred to OGBYN and OBGYN referred to Er and Er referred to PCP HELP?

Brief Answer:
It is more to do with PCP

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I feel that if the blood work did not include thyroid profile she need to get tested for thyroid hormones as similar presentation can be observed in hyperthyroidism. I means to say that her hormonal profile need to be done without delay.

Second think I feel this need to taken are at PCP office rather than ER. Except the excruciating pain nothing can be described which is of emergency nature. Loss of body weight with weakening of spine can itself explain the pain and I feel PCP is the best person to decide next course of action.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards
