What Causes Unusually Prolonged Periods After A Miscarriage?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Jun 2022
Question: I have had an unusual period that has lasted for 7 days (very light only needed a pantyliner). I then stopped for 2 days and started with light pink spotting, only when I wipe but I am now on day 3 of spotting and this is starting to get more like light bleeding. I will attach my cycles and see if you can advise. I am worried that something is really wrong. I am trying to conceive and I am aged 42. Polycystic ovaries have been ruled out. I have recently started taking Metformin as I am a borderline diabetic.
I previously had a missed miscarriage where I was 12 weeks pregnant but went for a scan and baby stopped growing at 5.5 weeks. I had a natural miscarriage at home.
The miscarriage was in May 2017 and after this my cycles have been regular.
Please advise what this bleeding could be. I worry about cancer or the menopause.
I have no symptoms other than this unusual bleeding.
I am also using a Clearblue fertility monitor which only every shows low and high days and never a peak.
I have used Clearblue digital ovulation test and this gives positive ovulation.
My GP says he is confident that I do ovulate as I have been pregnant before.
Do you see me be able to get pregnant again?
Please answer my questions asap as I am really worried and panic.
Thank you very much for your help.
I have attached blood results but these are from 2016.
I am to have day 2 bloods on my next cycle for hormones but I am unsure of when my day 2 will be as this current period and light bleeding has really thrown me out.

Brief Answer:
Can be mild hormonal disturbance.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

You are having proper periods every month. The light bleeding or spotting that you are having now is likely to be related to a mild hormonal disturbance.

As you had a missed abortion earlier, the chances of conception again are present. It is best to get your ovulation studies done with serial ultrasound scans and then plan for regular intercourse to help you conceive.

I hope this answers your query. In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The heavier bleeding suggests a late period that can happen due to a hormonal disturbance. You can test your urine for pregnancy and if the test is negative then there is no need to worry. The bleeding will gradually stop on its own in next 4-5 days.

Hope my answer is helpful. Do accept my answer in case there are no further queries.

Will this mean I have not ovulated, this scares me as I am really trying and wanting to conceive. I am a little heavier in bleeding today which really does look like my period.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to other causes.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The cause of inability to conceive is not always due to lack of ovulation. There can be other causes also like wrong timing or thin endometrium or thick cervical mucosa. All this can be ruled out after proper tests. Even with proper ovulation the chances of conception in a cycle are not more than 20-25%.

Brief Answer:
Pause- MF can help in decreasing bleeding.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The bleeding you are having is heavier than normal. This can cause a cramp like pain in the lower abdomen. To decrease the bleeding you can start with hemostatic tablets like Pause-MF and iron supplements. In case the bleeding continues then do consult your gynecologist for a few investigations and proper hormonal pills to control the bleeding.
