What Causes Upper Right And Lower Left Quadrant Pain Radiating To The Back?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Nov 2016
Question: I have been experiencing some severe abdominal pain in the upper right quadrant and in my lower left quadrant. The pain seems to spread in to my back. I also feel constantly full and bloated. I almost always strain to have a bowel movement but once I go, I do get some relief. What could be causing this discomfort?

Brief Answer:
as explained in details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of severe abdominal pain in right upper and lower left quadrant - seems to spread to back - full and bloated - strain to have BM - some relief on passing BM - wants to know what would be causing this - in a female of 35...

My thoughts as per the history you have provided:
Colitis, the cause to be found by the following:
- Tests of stool for 3 consecutive days.
- Tests of blood: CBC and thyroid and other functions as may be guided by the clinical evaluation by your Doctor, preferably by a General Surgeon.
- Continue taking stool softener and fiber supplements.
- Medications as per the reports.
- If still no relief, an opinion of a Gastroenterologist and colonoscopy with biopsy to find the causative factors.
- Ultrasound and CT scan of the abdomen if required.

All these things will give the proper diagnosis and proper management.
I hope this answers your queries and helps to get a proper diagnosis and proper treatment.
Please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
